Perspective Students

Graduate Positions:

We currently have two openings for graduate students. If you are interested to join us as a graduate student please apply through the GSU graduate application portal. We also encourage contacting Chayan directly at cdutta@gsu.edu. Graduate positions are fully funded with a competitive monthly fellowship, please check the Chemistry department webpage for details. We highly encourage graduate students to apply for NSF graduate fellowship (GRFP), NDSEG fellowship, Ford Foundation fellowships, and/or other suitable fellowships. We will provide full support and mentorship to individual applicants for their fellowship applications.

Postdoctoral Positions:

We have one postdoctoral position available to work on advanced optical systems. We are looking for someone with a strong background in Physical Chemistry/ Chemical Physics/Optics and photonics/ Physics/ Biophysics. The candidates should have a Ph.D. in any of the mentioned disciplines and a good knowledge of some basic programming languages (Matlab, Python, Labview, etc.) So if you have a similar background and are eager to learn/develop some state-of-the-art spectroscopic and microscopic methods to solve exciting scientific problems in Analytical/ Environmental/ Biophysical Chemistry, please email Chayan with a detailed CV and a cover letter. Include the contact details for at least two references in the cover letter.

We also encourage applying to specific postdoctoral fellowships. International applicants are also encouraged to apply for country-specific fellowships like the Fullbright-Nehru postdoctoral fellowship etc. If you are planning to apply for such fellowships, please mention it in your cover letter.

Masters and Undergraduates:

We have multiple positions for MS and undergraduates.  Students enrolled in an MS or undergraduate program are highly encouraged to contact Chayan to discuss specific projects.

Chayan Dutta

Chayan is an experimental physical chemist. He has extensive experience in various spectroscopy and optical microscopy methods. As a graduate student at the University of Southern California, he worked with Prof. Alexander V. Benderskii in the Chemistry department. He utilized the surface-sensitive sum-frequency generation spectroscopy method to investigate the molecular orientation and structure of hydrogen bonds at various interfaces. Dr. Dutta joined the research group of Prof. Christy Landes at Rice University as a postdoctoral fellow. He developed a multi-color microscope for imaging cellular organelles and tracking cellular transport processes in 3D.
